Handspun And Handwoven Material

These handwoven throws are traditionally made from naturally-produced raw cotton, using a handloom.

Compared to modern fabric making practices, a handloom is a sustainable type of weaving that requires no electricity and produces no pollution.

Each throw is unique and made with utmost care by a small group of indigenous artisans from a small village in Indonesia.

They grow their own sustainable fabric, use their own local plants to dye the fabric and finish the process by handweaving.

This is circular production system that is self-sustaining with no waste.

Plant-Dyed Without Chemicals

After the handweaving process, these beautiful throws are naturally dyed in vibrant hues.

The dye is derived from various plant sources such as leaves, flowers, roots and barks.

The natural dyes used in the production are biodegradable, non-toxic and hypoallergenic.

There are no harmful chemicals or carcinogens at any stage, in contrast to artificial and synthetic dyes.

Natural dyeing is a ecological alternative to synthetic dyes avoiding highly toxic byproducts and residue.

After dyeing, the throws are dried naturally in the sunlight without the use of hot chambers, consuming zero electricity.

Did you know…

Synthetic dying techniques negatively contribute to the never-ending climate crisis and destroy natural habitats of animals and plants.

These chemicals are responsible for 20% of the world’s water pollution.

These toxins increase chemical-polluted water waste which is then dumped into our oceans, poisoning the ecosystems.

Stories Behind The Handlooms

The people residing in rural and remote communities are vulnerable to extreme poverty.

They have very limited access to infrastructure, education and employment opportunities.

However, weaving is a skill known to numerous ethnic groups in Indonesia, which helps them learn and earn.

They can make an income without having to move away from their village to look for work in hopes of economic stability.

The production of handspun cotton brings job opportunities to thousands of artisans, allowing them to keep this form of art alive for future generations.

However as synthetic fabrics and dyes become cheaper and quicker in the textile industry the demand for natural fibers has decreased, affecting their income.

This is just one example but it applies to many industries.

Making the conscious decision to support handmade and sustainable products where you can, does makes a difference.

What is a throw blanket for?
A throw blanket is used as an accessory piece to compliment your sofa or the foot of your bed.

You can also use a throw as an extra blanket anytime you need one.

What are the differences between a duvet and a throw?
A duvet is larger than a throw, and provides medium to high warmth that is mainly used on bedding.

A throw is a smaller piece of fabric that can provide light warmth and can be used as a decorative element over sofas, chairs, and the foot of a bed.

Could I use the Heveya Cotton Ombre Throw as a replacement for my duvet?
The throw can be used as a light-weight blanket for light coverage.

However, if you desire more weight and warmth we recommend a down alternative duvet such as our Heveya Organic Duvet.

Its thickness and ability to temperature-regulate keeps you covered and comfortable.

Is the Heveya Cotton Ombre Throw machine washable?
Yes, please wash the throw with similar colors at a cool water temperature preferably with organic soap or shampoo.

Can I machine dry the Heveya Cotton Ombre Throw?
Yes, you can machine dry the throw with similar colors. However, we do recommend air drying.

This is the most sustainable and gentle form of drying and also ensures the durability of the material over time.

In order to maintain the vibrant colour of your throw, please avoid exposing it to direct sunlight.

Would the natural dye used in the Heveya Cotton Ombre Throw fade with repetitive washing?
We recommend washing the throw sparingly with cold water only, without the use of harsh detergents.

While it is indeed a durable material made with the best quality, it is naturally-dyed.

With all naturally-dyed products, there may be fading with repeated washing.
